GES Start/End Times to Change by 10 Minutes for 2016-17 School Year
In an effort to better maximize student instruction time, Glenwood Elementary School will begin and end their day 10 minutes later (8:30 a.m./3:35 p.m.) for the 2016-17 school year. The current staggered elementary start/end times often result in buses arriving at, or just after 8:30 a.m. as they complete their morning routes to BES/CES. At the end of the school day, the majority of GES students wait 10-20 minutes after the 3:25 p.m. dismissal for their buses to then complete the BES/CES afternoon routes. These gaps leave less student instructional time than the other elementary schools provide. Thus, over the past year Glenwood Elementary staff, building administration and District administration collaborated to try to find a remedy to this issue. While the ultimate goal is to align school start/end times for all three elementary schools in the future, all agreed that a more immediate solution was needed.  Thus, beginning in August 2016, Glenwood Elementary School’s student day will begin with doors opening at 8:30 a.m., late bell at 8:40 a.m., and student dismissal at 3:35 p.m. This ten-minute change will allow for all of GES buses to arrive and leave at the same time, and - more importantly - will result in gaining 50-60 minutes of instructional time per week.

Students who’ve been here from the beginning!

The group of 4th graders pictured are those who were Kindergartners when the building opened in 2011. We’ll miss this group of students, but can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!

Residency Verification for 2016-17 Required by June 10
The Ball-Chatham School District is asking all parents and guardians who plan to re-enroll their children for the 2016-17 school year to confirm residency before June 10. The need to periodically confirm residency for all students is important in order to ensure that we are being good stewards of taxpayer monies. These monies are utilized specifically to educate those students who reside in the Ball-Chatham School District.

To help with this process, parents have the following options:
  • Mail in copies of the required residency items, (see list attached) from Category 1 and Category 2, and include the residency form (attached) to the District Office – 201 W. Mulberry, Chatham, IL 62629, before June 10, 2016.
  • Drop off copies of the required documents (see list attached) from Category I and Category 2, and include the residency form (attached), to the District Office – 201 W. Mulberry, Chatham, IL 62629, before June 10, 2016.
  • Email copies of the required residency items, (see list attached) from Category 1 and Category 2, and include the residency form (attached) to: residency@bcsd5.org before June 10, 2016.
Residency documents will be reviewed and if further information is needed, parents/guardians will be notified by the District Office. The District will NOT be in contact if all documents are received, and residency IS confirmed. Please note that residency must be verified before students can be registered (either online July 18 through August 5) or through walk-in registration (11 a.m. to 6 p.m., August 4, at each school). Notification of schedules and/or teachers will not be made available until residency is confirmed and registration is complete.

For questions, please call any of our school’s main offices, or the District Office at 483-2416, ext. 0. We appreciate your cooperation on this request as we begin staffing plans for the upcoming school year.
